Colombia, November 2024 - According to Inrix, three Colombian cities (Bogotá, Medellín, and
Cali) rank among the fifty most congested in the world due to vehicle traffic. Traffic congestion
impacts the daily lives of Colombians, affecting not only those with their own cars but also those
who use mobility services for transportation. The international ride-hailing service Yango Ride,
part of the global tech company Yango Group, reports that during peak traffic hours, ride
requests increase by over 110%.
To help users navigate traffic and plan their trips more effectively saving time and money,
Yango shares the peak congestion hours for various cities in Colombia:
● Medellín: Ride requests nearly double during peak times, which are:
○ Morning: 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
○ Evening: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
● Cali: Requests increase by 2.4 times during peak hours:
○ Morning: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
○ Evening: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
● Barranquilla: There’s a significant rise in requests, with peak times being:
○ Morning: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
○ Evening: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
During these peak hours, demand for mobility services intensifies, leading to longer wait times
and challenges in securing available drivers. However, according to Yango data even during
these busy times, the average wait time to match with a driver in the app is approximately 1
minute and 30 seconds. Peak hours also affect travel duration. It is estimated that in Cali, a trip
takes about 22 minutes during peak hours, while in Barranquilla, it takes around 16.2 minutes.
In Medellín, trips can take nearly 23 minutes during these busy times. Whilst during normal
hours the trip can go from 13 min to 18min.
Yango recommends when to order a ride:
1. Avoid Peak Hours: If possible, schedule your rides outside the recommended peak
times to minimize waiting time and travel delays.
2. Plan trips ahead: Knowing the destination of your trip make your plan to request a ride
with enough time taking into account the difference in duration of the trips during peak
hours
3. Monitor Traffic Conditions: Utilize traffic apps to check real-time conditions, helping
you decide the best time to request a ride.
